Biggie number 2: Bayon

Built in the centre of Angkor Thom (the walled city) as the state temple for the kings of Angkor, Bayon is one of the "big 3" sites for good reason. It consists of 3 stepped terraces, supporting 49 towers of varying sizes, each topped with faces pointing in each direction.

The top terrace is quite small and can get quite crowded, but the bottom terrace is considerably larger and gets fewer tourists lingering. But you should definitely linger - bas relief carvings cover most of the monument - figures, animals, battle scenes. They're beautiful, and well worth your time exploring the full site.

A couple of delightful kittens I discovered playing in the temple

While I was there, a procession of some kind passed by (many of the temples are still active worship sites)
