Angkor Thom

Angkor Thom is the name for the walled city, built around 1200. The 4m tall walls enclose 9 km2, with many of the best-known temples and sites inside (although the city did extend outside of the walls, as does the archaeological park, with a large number of sites outside of walls including Angkor Wat itself, as well as some other well-known temples, like Ta Prohm and Preah Khan).

The south gate (Tonle Om) is the busiest, being the one most directly reached from Siem Reap. But it also is photogenic with sculptures lining the bridge over the moat.

The other 4 gates (3 of which you and your vehicle can pass through) are much quieter. But if you really want quiet, you can climb to the top of the walls alongside each gate, and walk along the top of the walls between the gates. You'll find a broad, tree-lined path, with small temples at the corners.
