Caving in Chiang Doi, where the tourists rarely go

Chiang Doi has beautiful countryside, cave temples, a massive limestone mountain and national park, good value accommodation, friendly locals, and is an easy journey from Chiang Mai.

It's also very quiet, with very few foreign tourists making it up here.

 I don't understand it, either.

The attractions in the town are fairly spread out: the town centre is on the former highway 107, about 5km from the mountain. The town centre is where you'll find the bus station, a morning market, and a selection of restaurants, guesthouses and wats. The mountain is where you'll find the caves, hot springs, some resorts and more restaurants, and the trailhead for the ascent up the mountain (which is only open during the winter months, so I didn't hike it). As I didn't have my own wheels, I took a taxi from my guesthouse in town to the the mountain, and then walked back (a nice walk along a relatively quiet road, past orchards and farms).
